Mongtomery County = Great High School Golf

There's an article in the Houston Chronicle detailing the great success over the years of the high school golf teams in Montgomery County (the teams from Montgomery and The Woodlands high schools). What could it be that makes these teams so successful? Hmm, well, the kids on those teams have a very good chance of being the children of wealthy parents, and that always helps (in golf and everything else).

Then there's this nugget:

Fred Couples and Vijay Singh have fought for pro titles at TPC at The Woodlands — the place The Woodlands golf teams now call their practice course.

  1. But, Allen H.S. Girls (Andrea Zwartynski, Kate Ackerson, Lyndsay Cullen, Sarah Zwartynski & Laura Dyson) beat The Woodlands and everybody else to win the 2005 Texas State 5A Championship. Allen girls also won their 2006 Districts and Regionals. As of this date, we are 3 days away from the 2006 5A State Championship. Golf is an enigmatic game. Let the best team win.

  2. Well, so much for Montgomery County Golf. Although, there are many good girl high school players in the Houston Metro area, the Dallas area dominated Texas 5A High School Championships in Austin.

As stated before, golf is an enigmatic game. The Allen High School girls golf team edged out Austin Westlake (by two shots) and The Woodlands by 6 shots to repeat as the Texas State 5A Champions.

    Again, the best team won.
