Westwood Golf Club in Houston was one of seven sectional qualifying sites on Monday for the U.S. Women's Open. Here are the golfers who made it through the Houston sectional to earn their spots in the Womens' Open field:
(a) Stacy Lewis, The Woodlands, 145
(a) Taylor Leon, Dallas, 145
Anna Acker-Macosko, Kerrville, 146
(a) Ashley Rollins, Austin, 146
The alternates are Cindy Currier (Austin, 147) and Claire Dury (New Zealand, 148).
Think of Stacy Lewis as a longshot possibility to win the Women's Open. A very long longshot, but someone whom it wouldn't be shocking to see in contention. She recently won the NCAA women's national championship, shooting 66 on the final day to do so (nobody else could break 70 that day), and earlier this year had a very strong showing at the first LPGA major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, finishing in the Top 10.
Lewis is playing collegiately at the University of Arkansas; Leon is leaving the University of Georgia after her sophomore season to turn pro.
Other Texans who qualified at various locations included Nicole Melton (San Antonio), Katie Futcher (The Woodlands) and Kelli Kuehne (Dallas).
