Doan Takes NTPGA Western Championship in Playoff

The Callaway NTPGA Western Championship is one of the Northern Texas PGA's "majors." Here is the recap:

MIDLAND, TX – Cameron Doan, head golf professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, erased a 5-shot deficit after round one to claim the 2007 Callaway Golf Western Championship at Midland Country Club.

Doan carded a 5-under par 67 (34-33) during Tuesday's final round to force a playoff with defending champion Perry Arthur. Arthur, director of instruction at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club (Dye Course), shared the lead at 5-under par following the first round and finished Tuesday's final round at even par 72 (35-37).

Both players made par on the first sudden death playoff hole. Then Doan hit his tee shot on the 180-yard par 3, 16th hole to six feet, while Arthur encountered trouble. Doan only needed to two-putt to win the playoff and claim the title for the second time in his career. His previous Western Championship victory came in 2002 at San Angelo Country Club.
