SA-Area Duo Wins Pro-Pro Match Play Title

From the Southern Texas PGA:

Boerne's Tim Hobby and Jeff Hunter of San Antonio defeated Jason Alexander of The Woodlands and Shane Pearce of Montgomery by a 2&1 margin in the finals of the 2007 Yamaha Southern Texas PGA Pro-Pro Match Play Championship at Wolf Dancer Golf Club in Lost Pines.

Hobby and Hunter were 3-up going into the 15th hole of the match when Alexander and Pearce rallied to win the 15th and 16th holes. The twosomes halved the 17th hole, giving Hobby and Hunter the 2&1 victory. The winning team received first-place money of $2,700, while the runners-up split $1,600.

Daren Heflin of Houston and Jeff Olson of League City won the consolation match and $1,000 with a 7&6 victory over Tony Johnson of San Antonio and Shawn Strohman of Marble Falls. Johnson and Strohman won $800 for their fourth-place finish.

The 2007 Yamaha STPGA Pro-Pro Match Play Championship began with qualifying rounds in two brackets in late May. Matches continued throughout the summer, culminating in the Sept. 24-25 semi-finals and finals at Wolf Dancer.

All teams reaching the quarterfinals received winning of $750; teams reaching the third round earned $425.
