San Antonio's La Cantera Sold

The Westin La Cantera Resort, one of the top resort properties in Texas and home to the PGA Tour Texas Open, has been sold, the San Antonio Express-News reported. Gaylord Entertainment Company, which owns the Grand Ole Opry plus the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, among other properties, purchased La Cantera from a subsidiary of insurance giant USAA for around $250 million.

And Gaylord plans to add onto the property, including doubling the number of hotel rooms available - a further investment of around $250 million.

A Gaylord spokesperson said no changes are planned to the golf operation, and no additional courses are planned. Troon Golf has always managed La Cantera's two tracks (the Resort Course and the Palmer Course), and done a great job at it. No reason to think that will change.
