The Texas ... Um ... Four-Step?

The PGA Tour sent out an interesting note the other day about the four tour events in Texas, the Houston Open, Byron Nelson Championship, Colonial and Texas Open. And that interesting note is this: No golfer has ever won all four tournaments in his career.

That's a little surprising, because all four tournaments have been around for a long time. There's one golfer who is still active and has a chance to become the first. Corey Pavin could claim that distinction by winning the Nelson. Corey's closing in on 50 very fast, though, so his time is running short (no pun intended).

There are nine golfers who've won three of the four Texas stops in his career. Here they are, along with the one tournament they did not win:

  • Bruce Crampton - Byron Nelson Championship
  • Ben Crenshaw - Houston Open
  • Roberto De Vicenzo - Texas Open
  • Ben Hogan - Houston Open
  • Gene Littler - Byron Nelson Championship
  • Corey Pavin - Byron Nelson Championship
  • Arnold Palmer - Byron Nelson Championship
  • Sam Snead - Houston Open
  • Mike Souchak - Byron Nelson Championship
