Jesse Horner, head golf professional in Horseshoe Bay Country Club’s Caprock golf shop, fired a 4-under-par total of 70-68—138 to win the Southern Texas PGA’s 2008 Srixon-Cleveland Golf Spring Classic at Cimarron Hills Golf & Country Club in Georgetown.
Horner , who earned $3,400 for the victory, entered the final round one stroke off the pace of first-round leader Chip Craig of The Deerwood Club in Kingwood. Craig posted a second-round score of 75 for a total of 144 and a fourth-place tie with Tim Thelen, director of instruction at The Traditions at Texas A&M in College Station. Thelen went 72-72 to gain the tie. Craig and Thelen took home $1,750 each.
Brad Lardon, director of golf at Bryan’s Miramont Country Club and the 2007 Southern Texas PGA Player of the Year., finished in second place, three strokes back of Horner, with a tally of 73-68—141 for $2,500 in winnings.
Jim Dickson, the head golf professional at The Woodlands Country Club’s Player Course and the 2007 STPGA Senior Player of the Year, won the Senior Division of the tournament with a score of 1-over-par, 73-72—145.
Dickson, who earned $1,500 for the win, finished four shots better than runner-up Chuck Westergard, head golf professional at San Antonio Country Club, who took home $1,200 for his 79-70—149 effort.
