Stevens Park Pro Claims E-Z-Go Title

The going wasn't easy, but in the end Michael Henderson emerged as the winner of the Northern Texas PGA E-Z-Go Eastern Championship, one of the NTPGA's "majors." Here's the report:

Richardson, TX – Michael Henderson found himself in a tie for first place at 2-under par with Bruce Smith, assistant golf professional at Stonebriar Country Club and Perry Arthur, teaching professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course after the completion of the final round of the Championship.

Henderson, head golf professional at Stevens Park Golf Course, birdied his first playoff hole to capture his third E-Z-GO Eastern Championship title in the last four years.

Henderson was only one shot behind overnight leader Travis Johns, assistant golf professional at Preston Trail Golf Club. A 1-under par round of 71 (36-35) was good enough to get him into the playoff. Henderson also captured the Championship in 2005 and 2006.

This 36-hole NTPGA major championship is the first of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Cleveland Golf / Club Car NTPGA Player of the Year Points Challenge, and serves as a qualifier for the 2008 Texas Joe Black Cup and James P. Jordan Cup teams.

The E-Z-GO Eastern Championship featured a field of 100 NTPGA Members and Apprentices competing at Sherrill Park Golf Course (#1) in Richardson. The golf professionals competed for a share of the $31,500.00 purse with the champion taking home $4,100.00 for first place.
