Doan Defends Title at Western Championship

Cameron Doan made it two wins in a row at the Northern Texas PGA Callaway Golf Western Championship. Here's the report from the NTPGA:

MIDLAND, TX – Cameron Doan, head golf professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, began the day tied for first place at 2-under par 70 with Lindy Miller, director of golf at Mira Vista Country Club and Greg Antunes, head golf professional at Stonetree Golf Club. Doan carded a 3-under par 69 (34-35) in his final round to successfully defend his title and claim the 2008 Callaway Golf Western Championship.

The leaders were pressured early with a strong push by Paul Norris, assistant golf professional at Dallas Country Club. Norris teed off an hour and twelve minutes before the leaders and quickly erased a seven shot deficit by carding a front nine 6-under par 30 to move within one shot of the lead. He continued his fine play on the back nine to close with a 3-under par 33 with birdies on holes 17 and 18. His final round total of 63 set the pace for the Championship with a two day total of 4-under par 140 (77-63). Norris' great effort came up one stroke shy but good enough for him to finish alone in second place.

Antunes closed with final round of 1-under par 71 to finish in third place with a two day total of 3-under par 141 (70-71). Miller finished alone in fourth place with a final total of 2-under par 142.

Doan becomes the only golf professional to win the Callaway Golf Western Championship three times in its ten year history. Doan's previous titles came in 2002 at San Angelo Country Club and in 2007 at Midland Country Club.
