Brian Bohlig of Trinity took a wire-to-wire win in the 2008 Southern Texas PGA TaylorMade-adidas Golf Assistant’s Championship, held on the North Course at The Club at Sonterra in San Antonio.
Bohlig, an assistant professional at Whispering Pines Golf Club, opened the tournament with a round of 1-under-par 71 and closed with a score of 66 for a 36-hole total of 7-under-par 137 to win in a runaway, finishing seven strokes ahead of a pair of golfers tied for second place.
Bohlig earned $1,500 for his victory, as well as a trip to the national PGA TaylorMade-adidas Golf Assistant's Championship, to be held Oct. 30-Nov. 2, 2008, at The PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Austin's David Von Hoffman, an assistant professional at Escondido, and Joe Mitchell, an assistant professional at Victoria Country Club, finished in the second-place tie. Von Hoffman went 73-71—144, while Mitchell flipped those scores, going 71-73—144, for his share of second place. Both golfers earned $900 in prize money and will join Bohlig as representative in the national championship.
Chip Craig, assistant professional at The Deerwood Club in Kingwood, will be the STPGA's fourth golfer in the national event, earning his spot in the field with a fourth-place finish in the STPGA tournament with a score of 74-72—146. Craig took home $700 for his effort.
