Golf Magazine Ranks Texas Courses

The September issue of Golf magazine includes that publication's "Top 100 Courses You Can Play" rankings. Keep in mind that the fact the public does have access to the courses on the list doesn't mean they are easy to get onto; and just because you can play them might not mean you can afford to play them.

On the national Top 100, as per usual, Texas doesn't fare very well: Only two courses make the magazine's list. Those are Barton Creek Fazio Canyons at No. 67 and Barton Creek Fazio Foothills at No. 71. Two years ago, the last time Golf's list was published, Foothills was rated one spot ahead of Canyons. Go figure.

Here is how Golf ranks the top "courses you can play" in Texas:

1. Barton Creek Fazio Canyons, Austin
2. Barton Creek Fazio Foothills, Austin
3. The Tribute, The Colony
4. La Cantera Palmer, San Antonio
5. TPC Las Colinas, Irving
6. Pine Dunes, Frankston
7. Horshoe Bay Ramrock, Horseshoe Bay
8. Cowboys Golf Club, Grapevine
9. The Rawls Course, Lubbock
10. Butterfield Trail, El Paso
11. La Cantera Resort, San Antonio
12. Horseshoe Bay Applerock, Horseshoe Bay
13. Wolfdancer, Bastrop
14. Augusta Pines, Spring
15. The Falls, New Ulm
16. Redstone Tournament Course, Humble
17. Blackhorse South, Cypress
18. The Quarry, San Antonio
19. Texas Star, Euless
20. Pecan Valley, San Antonio

  1. I just played Newport Dunes in Port Aransas, and I think it should be pretty close to the top if not at the very top of this list. It was an amzing course and a great experience!
