STPGA Junior Tour Championship

Below is the recap from the Southern Texas PGA of its just-completed 2008 STPGA Academy Sports & Outdoors Junior Tour Championship. The full results for all age brackets can be viewed on the STPGA Web site.

Corpus Christi's Vance Cavazos fired a 36-hole total of 72-74—146 for a four-stroke victory in the Boys 16-18 Division of the 2008 Southern Texas PGA Academy Sports & Outdoors Junior Tour Championship, contested on the Tradition Course at Spring’s Cypresswood Golf Club.

A trio of golfers — Stephen Litz of Corpus Christi, Jordan Soper of Beaumont and Justin Judkins of San Antonio — finished at 6-over-par 150

Vance Edwards, another Corpus Christi junior, won the tournament's Boys 14-15 Division with a score of 77-72—149. Jeffrey Garelick of Pflugerville tallied 152 strokes for the runner-up spot, with Beaumont's Tyler Thomas ending up third, one stroke back at 153.

Austin's William Martinez won the Boys 12-13 group with a score of 73-70—143. San Antoino's Jake Judkins posted a score of 79-75—154 for second-place honors, followed by Cody Byford of Round Rock in third place at 76-79—155.

Corpus Christi’s Vanessa Johnson won a six-hole sudden death playoff with Erin Jang of College Station for the top spot in the Girls 15-18 Division. Jang went 78-78—156 in regulation play; Johnson went 80-76—156 to force the playoff.

Chaslyn Chrismer of San Antonio and Elena Warren of Austin tied for third place at 84-77—161 and 85-76—161, respectively.

The Woodlands' Laken Trahan went 80-83—163 for a two-stroke edge over Daniela Fuentes of The Woodlands in the Girls 12-14 Division of the tournament. Lindsay McCurdy of Kyle finished in third place with a score of 81-85—166.

There were three holes-in-one scored during the course of the 2008 STPGA Academy Sports & Outdoors Junior Tour Championship. Adam Haley of Edinburg scored an ace on the Tradition Course’s 8th hole during the first round of the tournament. Corpus Christi’s Kelsey Canales took a hole-in-one on the same hole during the second round, and Ben Causgrove of Marble Falls aced #3, also during the second round.

All the competitors in the 2008 STPGA Academy Sports & Outdoors Junior Tour Championship earned their spots in the field through their play in Summer 2008 STPGA Academy Sports & Outdoors Junior Tour events.
