Hometown Golfer Wins Adams Tour Stop in Lubbock

The Adams Golf Pro Tour Series made a stop in Lubbock this past weekend, and the event was plagued by weather problems throughout. Originally scheduled for 72 holes, the City Bank Lubbock Open at Hillcrest Country Club was shortened to 54.

Play began on Thursday, but severe rain, accompanied by flooding, struck the area that day. Most golfers were unable to finish their first rounds on Thursday, and play was canceled altogether on Friday. So golfers squeezed in 54 holes on the weekend.

And that still wasn't enough, because Lubbock's Shaun Melville and the defending champion, Fort Worth's Adam Meyer, were tied at 16-under par 200. The pair entered into a playoff, and hometown golfer Melville emerged as the champion, making par on the second extra hole to Meyer's bogey.

Melville, who played Hillcrest many times during his career as a member of the Texas Tech golf team, earned $15,000 for the victory.
