PGA Tour, Champions Tour Qualifiers in October

The Southern Texas PGA will conduct three pre-qualifying events in October for golfers seeking entry into the Champions Tour Administaff Small Business Classic, Champions Tour AT&T Championship, or the PGA Tour Texas Open, respectively.

Oct. 2 - Texas Open
The Southern Texas PGA will conduct Pre-Qualifying for the 2008 Valero Texas Open on Monday, Oct. 2 at Pecan Valley Golf Club in San Antonio. The top 50 (plus ties) golfers from the 18-hole, stroke-play pre-qualifying event will advance to Open Qualifying, which will take place at Pecan Valley on Oct. 6, 2008.

The top four golfers from the Open Qualifier will then advance into the field of the 2008 Valero Texas Open, which will take place Oct. 9-12 at San Antonio’s La Cantera Golf Club.

The pre-qualifying round is open to professionals and to amateurs with a USGA Handicap Index that, when applied to the slope of the qualifying course, generates a handicap of 2.0 or less.

The entry fee for the Pre-Qualifier is $200 for professionals (the entry fee for 2008 Nationwide Tour members is $100; there is no charge to 2008 PGA Tour members) and amateurs and includes a green fee and practice range use on the day of the competition. Practice rounds must be arranged with the host facility— fees for practice rounds are at the discretion of the host facility.

Golfers advancing into the Open Qualifier will pay an additional entry fee of $200.
The deadline for entry is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2008.

All entries must be directed to the Southern Texas PGA via FAX, e-mail or through on-line entry procedures. No telephone entries will be accepted.

Oct. 8 - Administaff Small Business Classic
The Southern Texas PGA will conduct a Pre-Qualifier for the PGA Champions Tour 2008 Administaff Small Business Classic on Oct. 8, 2008, on the Tradition Course at Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring.

The Pre-Qualifier is open to all amateurs and professionals ages 50 and above as of Oct. 8, 2008. The 18-hole stroke play event will produce a maximum of six spots in the Administaff Small Business Classic Event Qualifier, which will be held on the Player Course at The Woodlands Country Club on Oct. 14, 2008.

A maximum of five golfers from the Event Qualifier (18 holes, stroke play) will advance into the field of the 2008 Administaff Small Business Classic, which will take place Oct. 17-19 on the Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club. The Event Qualifier will also yield four alternate qualifiers.

The entry deadline for the Pre-Qualifier is 5 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2008. Class A members of the PGA of America will pay $150 to enter the Pre-Qualifier; non-members will pay $200 (an additional $20 insurance fee is required from players who are not members of the PGA of America).

Qualifiers advancing from the Pre-Qualifier to the Open Qualifier and from the Open Qualifier into the Administaff Small Business Classic will pay no additional entry fees.

Oct. 16 - AT&T Championship
An 18-hole Pre-Qualfier for the 2008 PGA Champions Tour AT&T Championship will be conducted by the Southern Texas PGA on Oct. 16 at The Club at Sonterra in San Antonio, with a maximum of six golfers advancing into the field of an Open Qualifier to be held Oct. 21 at San Antonio’s Canyon Springs Golf Club.

The Pre-Qualifier is open to all amateurs and professionals ages 50 and above as of Oct. 16, 2008.

A maximum of five golfers (the low five scorers) from the Event Qualifier (18 holes, stroke play) will advance into the field of the 2008 AT&T Championship, which will take place Oct. 24-26 at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio. The Event Qualifier will also yield four alternate qualifiers for the Champions Tour event.

The entry deadline for the Pre-Qualifier is 5 p.m. on Oct. 13, 2008. Class A members of the PGA of America will pay $150 to enter the Pre-Qualifier; non-members will pay $200 (an additional $20 insurance fee is required from players who are not members of the PGA of America).

Qualifiers advancing from the Pre-Qualifier to the Open Qualifier and from the Open Qualifier into the Administaff Small Business Classic will pay no additional entry fees.
