Two of them:

  • Ausin's Champions Tour event, previously known as the FedEx Kinko's Classic, will have a new sponsor beginning in 2009. Triton Financial has taken over sponsorship duties. The Triton Financial Classic will be played June 5-7, 2009, remaining at The Hills Country Club.

Triton is a partner of the Heisman Trophy Trust and has several former Heisman winners, plus former NFL and college athletes, on its payroll. It plans to utilize those ties to bring more sports celebrities to Austin to participate in tournament week.

  • Dick Rundle of Dallas is the winner of the 2009 Joe Dey Award, given by the USGA for meritorious service to the game as a volunteer. Rundle, now 78, will receive the award Feb. 7 of next year at the USGA's annual meeting.

Rundle became a volunteer rules official in 1990, working in the Northern Texas PGA section. Over the years, has organized and run championship qualifying for the USGA in North Texas. He is the originator of the equipment trailer containing essential gear for conducting championships and qualifying events - tents, tables, chairs, USGA banners, clocks, flags, and radios - to set up at every host site, and has been a member of the Regional Affairs Committee of the USGA for 15 years.
