Nicklaus Course Breaks Ground in Horseshoe Bay

For probably five years now, maybe longer, the website of Jack Nicklaus' design company has listed a course project in Horseshoe Bay. That project finally appears to be full steam ahead after a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday.

The course, called Summit Rock Golf Course, is the centerpiece of a 1,600-acre residential development called Skywater Over Horseshoe Bay. After many delays due to economic concerns, and starts and stops that included the sale of 93 lots and the completion of several homes, the Skywater and Summit Rock projects are moving forward after new owners took over the development.

Summit Rock is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. Whenever you see "signature course" appended to an architect's name, that means the architect really is the course designer (as opposed to having only oversight while the heavy lifting is handled by associates within his company). So expect Nicklaus to make plenty of visits to the Summit Rock location while work is ongoing.
