Austin, TX: Greg Hiller of San Antonio shot a final round of three under par 69 to claim a one shot victory at the 2010 STPGA Callaway Tradition Championship. Hiller’s two under par total of 142 for two rounds over the challenging Fazio-Canyons Course at Barton Creek Resort and Spa was good enough to edge Chip Craig of Kingwood by a single shot. Tim Thelen and Lonnie Alexander tied for third at even par 144.
In the Senior Division, first round leader Steve Parker of Houston posted a three shot over Troy Schleicher of The Woodlands. Parker followed his opening round 69 with a 74 for a one under par total of 143.
Hiller, who works for the Alamo City Golf Trail in San Antonio at Breckenridge Park, was asked if he was watching the leader boards on the course: “No. I never do,” Hiller stated. “I knew I was playing well and thought maybe I was in the thick of it, but I didn’t know I was winning.”
Several names got to the top of the leader board at various times throughout the final round, and Craig was tied with Hiller coming to the 36th and final hole. He then three putted for a bogey and came up one shot short of forcing a playoff. Thelen and Alexander also had some chances, but in the end it was Hiller holding the winner’s trophy and $3,000.00 first place check.
