Palmer Port A Course Files for Bankruptcy

Is yet another Corpus Christi-area golf course in danger of closing? Last week we told you that Pharaohs Country Club in Corpus will close by July. Kings Crossing Country Club in Corpus shut down last year.

Now comes word that Newport Dunes in Port Aransas has filed for bankruptcy. Newport Dunes filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which means reorganization, not necessarily liquidation. So the Newport Dunes golf course may yet survive, assuming an organization plan can be worked out that meets with the bankruptcy court's approval. Chapter 11 filings don't always result in a company's survival, however.

Newport Dunes was designed by Arnold Palmer, and Palmer played a round there after the course's opening in late 2008.
