Romo Unlikely to Play in Nelson Monday Qualifier

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo made it through the pre-qualifier last week to earn a spot in the field for the HP Byron Nelson Championship Open Qualifying Tournament (a k a, the Monday qualifier). But it appears likely that Romo won't be able to play after all.

After earning his spot in the Monday qualifier, Romo requested an afternoon tee time. The reason: The Cowboys begin their first official, organized team preseason activities on Monday at 11 a.m., and Romo plans to be there.

Alas, when tee times were announced, Romo had been given a 9:57 a.m. tee time. No afternoon tee times were given to anyone; as per PGA Tour regulations pertaining to Monday qualifying fields of this size, the tee times are all morning times.

After seeing his tee time, Romo said the only way he'll be able to play is if the qualifier is significantly delayed by weather.

The qualifier takes place at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club's Hills Course in McKinney. Others in the field include Joe Durant, Mark Brooks, Paul Stankowski, Kris Cox, Frank Lickliter, Robert Gamez, Guy Boros, Eric Axley, Robert Damron and Glen Day.
