Tidbits from Colonial

The PGA Tour's weekly notes package includes a few interesting tidbits about this week's Colonial and last week's Nelson.

  • The only golfer ever to win both the Nelson and Colonial in the same season is Ben Hogan. Jason Day won last week's Nelson, so he gets to try this week to become the second to accomplish that feat. And Day is a member at Colonial.

  • Only one golfer has won the Colonial more than twice. Yep, Ben Hogan again. Phil Mickelson can become the second this week. If he wins, it will be win No. 3 at Colonial. Same for Kenny Perry.

  • Twenty-two of the Top 30 players in the world rankings are playing Colonial in 2010. This tournament's field really dropped off in the aftermath of Hogan's death, just as the Nelson's field has in the aftermath of Nelson's death. But Colonial, at least, is rebounding nicely.

  • The last native Texan to win the Colonial was Ben Crenshaw in 1990.
