MIDLAND, TX – Jason Hase, PGA director of golf at San Angelo Country Club in San Angelo, Texas, posted a seven-under par, 65 in the final round of the Callaway Golf Western Championship to capture his first Northern Texas PGA major championship title. Hase’s two round total of nine-under par, 135 gave him a two-stroke victory of Midland resident, Lee Rhind, assistant golf professional at Midland Country Club in Midland, Texas. Hase began his bogey-free with birdies on holes #1 and #2 and an eagle on the par-5, 4th hole. Another birdie on hole #9 lead to a front nine total of five-under par, 31 and birdies on holes #12 and #16 lead to a back nine total of two-under par, 34. Hase took home a check in the amount of $2,600.00 for his victory.
Finishing at a close second at seven-under par, 137 was Lee Rhind. Rhind had a rough start to his round with a quadruple bogey on the first hole, but with birdies on holes #3, #4, #5 and #9, he was able to get back to even-par for the round heading into the back nine. He then went on to birdie holes #12, #13 and #15 to post a three-under par, 33 on the back nine for a second round total of 69.
Hase’s victory earned him an exemption into the Nationwide Tour WNB Golf Classic to be conducted on September 23-26, 2010 at Midland Country Club. Joining Hase in the WNB Golf Classic will be Bruce Smith, PGA director of instruction at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, Texas and Brian McKinley, PGA head golf professional at Green Tree Country Club who both earned spots via the “PGA Class-A” Qualifier held in conjunction with round one.
