San Antonio, TX -- Texas golf fans will have a rare and historic opportunity to help introduce the opening of the new Texas Golf Hall of Fame at Brackenridge Park and the induction of the Hall of Fame's Class of 2010, as golf's greatest trophies will be together for the first time in Texas for those special events.
In a first-ever presentation outside of the PGA of America’s Historical Center in Florida, the reconstituted Hall of Fame in San Antonio will exhibit the original Wanamaker Trophy (PGA Championship), plus exact replica trophies of The Masters, U.S. Open Championship, British Open Championship (Claret Jug) and the Ryder Cup. Also exhibited will be trophies from the Texas Open, the State Junior Championship, the Texas State Amateur, and the Joe Black Cup.
From the conclusion of the Ryder Cup in Wales on October 5, to the completion of the Champions Tour's AT&T Championship at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio on Oct. 31, the trophies will be on exhibit at “Old Brack” for public viewing and, for a $20 donation to the Hall of Fame, the public can have their photograph taken with the trophies.
"We are thankful and delighted that The PGA of America helped coordinate this event with the Augusta National Golf Club, the United States Golf Association and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland," said Buddy Cook, chairman of the Hall's Board of Directors. "All have agreed to loan us these magnificent trophies to help kick off our new Hall of Fame and the induction event. This is truly a rare opportunity for Texas golf lovers to be up close to these great trophies – all in one location – and to be photographed with them. Where better than at ‘Old Brack’ as part of our first induction ceremony."
The first Class since 1996 will be inducted into the venerable Hall of Fame on October 25, 2010. The public recently voted for that Class through the Hall's recently released website. Tickets for the induction event are available by contacting the Texas Golf Hall of Fame.
In addition to public exhibits at Brackenridge Park Golf Course during October, the Texas Golf Hall of Fame will hold viewings for the public at the AT&T Championship and its Pro-Am Party, and at receptions at various local events during the month, including an event at The First Tee of San Antonio. Proceeds from the events will benefit the Texas Golf Hall of Fame and The First Tee of San Antonio.
The Texas Golf Hall of Fame and Museum, a 501(c) (3) organization, is located at the Brackenridge Park Golf Course clubhouse and a historic building adjacent to the clubhouse, the Borglum Studio. More information about it can be obtained at texasgolfhof.org.
