Bryan, TX: Brad Lardon started the final round of the 2010 Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship with a one shot lead over two time defending champion Tim Thelen, and that is exactly where they ended up when the final putt fell. Lardon, Director of Golf at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, site of this year's STPGA Professional championship, claimed his second title in this event, having also won in 2006. The battle between he and Thelen, Assistant Professional at The Falls Resort & Golf Club in New Ulm, was joined by Carl Cooper of Humble Oil Patch Golf Club. The three were paired together in the final round and each had their chance, but in the end it was the host professional won claimed the $8,000 first prize check.
"It was quite a battle out there today," Lardon said, adding: "It has been a long time since I played well enough to get in the battle, and it felt good."
The Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship also serves as the qualifying event for the 2011 PGA Professional National Championship. 11 players (plus Thelen, who was exempt as a former PNC Champion) earned a spot in next year’s National Championship, which will be played at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA.
